Middleton Place — the crown jewel of Charleston, my favorite city in the world (and my fiancé’s favorite place to pretend he knows what’s going on). The oaks here drip with Spanish moss and judgment, the gardens are basically showing off, and the Ashley River sparkles like it’s in on the secret that this is my Super Bowl. Charleston has my whole heart — the history, the drama, the humidity that personally attacks my hair — and somehow, this place makes it all feel like a dream sequence. Getting married here isn’t just romantic; it’s a full production where I’m the director, star, and probably also the stagehand who’s over budget. Meanwhile, he’ll just show up, say “I do,” and take all the credit for my masterpiece.
